Welcome to A Lawyer's Life! Though you're living one lawyer's life right now, join us on a journey that explores what you probably never imagined a lawyer's life could be. It's surprising what you can find when you take the blinders off and look sideways.
A Lawyer's Life is a forum for exploring the fascinating things that lawyers and former lawyers do with their degrees, both inside and outside the law. It's an online community that examines the challenges and opportunities that female lawyers face. It's a place to learn, connect and share. But most importantly, it's a place to open yourself up to a myriad of possibilities.
While more than 40% of law graduates today are women, less than 20% ever see equity partnership. And less than 5% of Fortune 500 companies have female CEOs. But you know that already, because you're living it. Yes, these topics should be talked about more, but all too often the discussion devolves into a cacophony of laments about the hours, the politics, and the grind, or sound bites that don't offer any solution. You already know about that as well. A Lawyer's Life is here to move the dialogue in a different direction, to showcase the creative ways women use their law degrees and inspire our readers to effect positive change at work and at home. They say knowledge is power. You already have plenty of knowledge about your current situation. Now, it's time to find out what others are doing, in the legal profession and beyond.
We go straight to the source to present in-depth interviews with lawyers who love their jobs, former lawyers who have found success and happiness in other pursuits, and mentors you wish you had. Simplicity and directness is the key. We don't need to editorialize for you. You get access to unique information that is yours to learn from and build on, in the direction of your choosing.
Law students, lawyers, former lawyers, and those who want to become former lawyers. From public interest to Big Law, first-year associates to senior partners, A Lawyer's Life is for anyone who is looking to learn and be inspired.

Originally from New Zealand, I graduated with a B.A., LL.B.(Hons) from the University of Auckland, and an LL.M. from the University of Virginia. I practiced law for eight years. Though I still dip my toes in the law, I've since traded my business suits for a business of my own. The knowledge and skills I acquired practicing law proved invaluable in building a jewelry design company, but the key was looking up from my desk and finding out what others were doing, what else was out there. It took years for me to seek out and speak with fascinating women lawyers who forged their own path. What I found in them inspired me. A Lawyer's Life is my attempt to share that with women everywhere, minus the legwork.
