At Cravath, we believe strongly in a diverse work environment that welcomes and supports a wide range of people. Dedication to diversity and inclusion is woven into the Cravath culture. It’s not a short-term initiative. It’s not a pilot program.
Cravath is proud to support “A Lawyer’s Life” in its mission of exploring the challenges and opportunities that women lawyers face. At Cravath, we encourage and support women lawyers from the moment they join the firm. Under the auspices of our Women’s Initiative, we sponsor numerous networking opportunities for our women associates, as well as substantive programs that address issues of women and leadership.
Managing the competing demands of legal practice and life outside the law can be challenging. We are committed to providing support to our lawyers with families. We have a generous program that offers a minimum of 18-weeks paid maternity leave, part-time and other flexible work arrangements and an amazing on-site Children’s Center, staffed by a warm team of experts in the child-care field. We were the first organization to create such a special place more than twenty-five years ago. Today, children are an important part of daily life at Cravath. Parents can bring their babies to the Center full-time for up to six months, and children are a constant presence at lunch-time in the firm’s cafeteria. Through our Working Parents Group, we offer a wide range of programs for parents, which address topics such as educational options in New York City and financial and estate planning.
Our commitment to diversity also means looking beyond the firm and supporting collaborative initiatives within the legal community. We sponsor dinners, receptions and panel discussions for women law school students; we support organizations such as The Kate Stoneman Project, a group that addresses advancement of women in the legal profession; and we provide pro bono services to groups such as Her Justice, which supplies free legal services to women in need. We are proud to stand by those organizations – just as we are delighted to support this initiative by “A Lawyer’s Life”
