GET INVOLVED: Opportunities to make a difference

1. Pro Bono Representation: Public Benefits, Housing, and Matrimonial Cases

Sanctuary for Families collaborates with many law firms and in-house legal departments throughout New York to provide training and pro bono opportunities to attorneys Sanctuary offers a variety of pro bono opportunities, but has a particular need right now for firms interested in working on public benefits cases (both client advocacy and fair hearing representation), housing court cases, and divorces (contested, uncontested, and publication divorces). Sanctuary offers training and supervision in each of these areas. Please email Nicole Fidler at nfidler@sffny.org if your firm is interested in discussing these opportunities.

2. Crisis Kit Volunteer Event

When a survivor of domestic violence or sex trafficking first comes to Sanctuary, or when Sanctuary provides emergency aid response to trafficking victims after a law enforcement raid, our clients are often at a crisis point. They rely on Sanctuary to provide them with a safe location and basic necessities. As part of our services, Sanctuary provides these clients with a “Crisis Kit.” A Crisis Kit volunteer event might first include a drive to collect items for the kits (deodorant, body gel, toothbrush/toothpaste, t-shirts, etc.) and then a few hours of volunteer time to assemble the kits and deliver them to Sanctuary. If you would like to organize a Crisis Kit volunteer event at your firm or business, please email Emily LoBue at elobue@sffny.org.
